MSTEP Science BSC Data Review
Members receive training on how to interpret the statistics presented on the MSTEP Science assessment items, including statistical flags indicating items that may not be performing as expected. Members then independently review and discuss all items comparing performance of males with females, by racial/ethnic group, economically disadvantaged with non-economically disadvantaged, English language learners with non-English language learners, and students with a disability with students who do not have a similar disability. Using this data, the BSC members discuss and use expert judgment to determine and come to consensus whether each item should be accepted as, revised, or rejected (not used on a future assessment). This process is done to assure our assessment items do not display any preference towards a certain group, or could be deemed as sensitive in nature to any group.
