Biographical Sketch:
Son of James Brodhead and Kezia [or Kasika] (Leaster or Lester) Deyo. He moved to Richland, MI in Kalamazoo County when he was 14. His early life was spent on the family farm while he attended public school during the fall and winter terms. At 20, he became a minister in the Christian Church and for the next few years, he preached and studied in Illinois (2 years), Naples, New York (1 year) and Michigan. After 1880, he lectured in several states on labor and economic issues. In 1883, the governor appointed him chaplain of the state House of Correction. He belonged to the National Greenbacker Party.
