Biographical Sketch:
He was former small-business owner who owned and operated three funeral homes in the Coldwater area. Kurtz also served as pastor of the United Brethen Church in Coldwater. Served on the Board of Directors for Hands for Mercy and the Reading Emergency Unit. He was a member of the North Adams Lions Club, Coldwater Exchange Club, Hillsdale Chamber of Commerce and Gideon's International. He served on the Governmental Relations Committee for the Michigan Funeral Directors Association (MFDA) and as president of District 2 for the MFDA. He served on the North Adams Heritage Days organizing committee.

He was Hillsdale Elks Citizen of the Year in 2005-2006, and the North Adams Community Citizen of the Year in 2004.
