Biographical Sketch:
Son of James and Mary (Adams) Laing. Emigrated to Canada with his parents in 1849. He moved to Michigan in 1865, and worked in the lumber woods and at farming until 1878. He then moved to Iron Mountain, and engaged in the butcher business. His interests included a large wholesale and retail meat market in Iron Mountain, and Marinette, WI, and in a saw mill and general store in Wilson. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. [Odd Fellows], A.O.U.W. [Ancient Order of United Workmen], and Knights of Pythias.
