Biographical Sketch:
Son of James and Sarah (Price) Mayo. He moved to Convis, Calhoun County, in 1850, and assisted his father in clearing a new farm. He enlisted on the first call for volunteers, as a private, and served 3 years as a private and non commissioned officer in the 2d Michigan Infantry. He was wounded at Knoxville, TN, Nov. 24, 1863, and at the Wilderness, VA, May 6 ,1864. At the close of the war he purchased a farm in Marshall Township. He served as township superintendent of schools for the towns of Convis and Marshall. He was a lecturer and general deputy for the Michigan State Grange.
