Biographical Sketch:
He moved to Michigan with his parents, Mayer [or Morgan] L. and Mary (Philler) Palmer, in 1857. At 13, he enlisted as a drummer boy and served nearly 3 years, receiving his dis- charge at Jackson, MI, in 1865. He moved, with his family, to Big Rapids in 1869. He was elected county superintendent of schools for Mecosta county, holding the position until the law providing for such officials was repealed. He studied law with Judge Fuller of Big Rapids, and was admitted to the bar in 1877. He was elected to the office of Prosecuting Attorney in 1878, serving 3 terms. For several years, he was county agent of the State Board of Corrections and Charities and member of the Board of Education of Big Rapids.
