Biographical Sketch:
He was a retired anesthesiologist. He served as the President of the Detroit Board of Education. In addition, he worked as a mentor for young African-American men and created the non-profit organization Coalition Inc., focused on reducing morbidity and mortality in the community. He served as a member of the Board of the Council of Great City Schools; Michigan Association of School Boards, and as a member of the Detroit Public Library Commission. He served on the board of Detroit’s Ecumenical Theological Seminary, on the board of Harper-Hutzel Hospital and as Interim Chairman of the Board of Gospel Against AIDS. He served as a physician through his work with the National Amateur Boxing Association and as Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness at Plymouth United Church of Christ. For over 9 years, he hosted “The Dr. Jimmy Womack Show” a DMC-sponsored program, on WGPR FM radio and as segment host of “Transition,” seen on TV 20. He ministered to the congregation of St. John and St. Luke’s United Church of Christ as the interim Associate Pastor.
