Biographical Sketch:
Born and reared on a farm. He served in the 17th Maine infantry during the Civil War, from March to May of 1865. He held various town and school offices, and was Representative in the Maine Legislature in 1868. Admitted to the bar in 1875; began practicing law in Elk Rapids in 1876. He was prosecuting attorney of Antrim County, MI, from 1877-85, and Circuit Court Commissioner from 1877-81. Member of the Grand Army of the Republic [GAR}
