Arrived in Detroit in 1850. Elected to the board of councilmen of Detroit; president and acting mayor of Detroit, 1883-87. He was in the general merchandise trade. Appointed city assessor in 1890, for 3 years; member of the board of estimates from 1879-89, when Belle Isle was purchased for a park.
