Biographical Sketch:
Son of a French Canadian Laurence and Mary (Janis) Durocher. He came to Michigan territory in 1803 and settled in Monroe in 1805. He volunteered to fight the British in the cavalry during in the War of 1812. He was elected clerk of the county of Monroe in 1818, and held the office for nearly 20 years. He was for 6 years a member of the territorial council in 1827-35, also a member of the convention which framed the first constitution of the State. He served as judge of probate, circuit clerk, clerk of the city of Monroe, at various times. He was, like most of the French settlers upon the " Raisin," a accomplished gentleman, and was the chief legal authority among the French residents. He served as supervisor in Frenchtown in 1833 and 1842-48.
