Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish descent. When 4 years old, he came with his parents and settled in Filer Township, Manistee County, MI. At age 15, he began work in the shingle mills as packer and jointer until 1889. He then engaged in the general merchandise business in Oak Hill, MI. He was elected supervisor of Filer Township in 1903; and chairman of the board in 1907 and again in 1908.
