Biographical Sketch:
Son of Maria (Stewart) & Dr. Harry Conant; descendant of Roger Conant, 1st colonial governor of Massachusetts. Engaged in business; tobacco manufacturer in 1870. Studied law & admitted to the bar, 1878. Director of the 1st National Bank of Monroe; V.P. 1879-80; director of Union Trust Co. of Detroit. He served as mayor, alderman and supervisor. He was an officer in the Monroe County Agricultural Society. Member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Notable Facts:
U.S. Consul in Naples, Italy for 7 months in 1880. Elected Sec. of State in 1882 and 1884.
