Biographical Sketch:
Son of Thomas Halbert. He lived in Michigan in 1850-52; returned to New York until entering University of Michigan in 1854. He taught mathematics at Kalamazoo High School, 1858-62. He again returned to New York around 1862, farming there until 1867. He purchased a farm in Conway, Livingston County, MI in 1867. In that year, he also took charge of the mathematics department at Kalamazoo College for 1 year. He was elected township supervisor in 1870 and county treasurer in 1872. He moved to Howell, MI in 1872 while serving the county returning to his farm in 1877.
