Biographical Sketch:
Born in Vermont, Nathaniel Wesley Lewis was the son of Hiram Lewis and Betsey Stockwell. He moved to Calhoun County, MI in 1858. He enlisted as a private in an independent cavalry regiment, known as 'Merrill's Horse' in 1862. He was promoted through the ranks, mustering our as a lieutenant in fall of 1865. When he returned to Michigan, he settled in Ganges, Allegan County where farmed and grew fruit. He served as commissioner, clerk and supervisor in his township.

He was a Democrat but was elected on the National Greenback ticket. Three different memorials for him at findagrave.com: one at Loomis Cemetery in Fennville, Allegan County, MI and two at Robinson Cemetery in Gobles, Van Buren County, MI.
