Biographical Sketch:
Moved with his parents to Western Reserve, Lorain Co., OH, 1835. moved to Oshkosh, WI in 1849; employed in a sawmill in the pine region; returned to Ohio in 1850, built & operated a sawmill until 1852; moved to Lexington, MI; engaged in the manufacture of lumber; moved to St. Charles, in the Saginaw Valley, in 1855 & engaged in the lumber industry; purchased a mill in Bay City, MI, which he operated from 1858-1864; engaged in the salt industry in Bay City, 1864. Held many local posts.

Notable Facts:
First mayor of Bay City after it obtained its charter in 1865. Elected to the 43rd-44th Congresses (3/4/1873-3/;3/1877). Instrumental in establishing the first beet-sugar factory in the MI. A member of the Masons.
