Biographical Sketch:
Eldest son of Nathan H. & Hannah (Carpenter)Briggs. Attended Olivet College for 6 yrs. Purchased an interest in a Battle Creek business until 1862 then raised troops for 7th Reg. Michigan Cavalry. Appointed 1st Lt. & mustered out as Colonel. At the end of the war, he commanded the Michigan 7th Cavalry in the South sub-district of the Plains in the West. Returned to Grand Rapids, 1866. Formed the Michigan Barrel Co. in 1879. Involved in many businesses over time.
