Biographical Sketch:
Youngest of 12 children of Rev. John and Mary Brodhead. He lived in Pontiac, Mi before settling in Detroit in 1846. he entered the army infantry in 1847, mustering out as a captain in 1848. he was postmaster in Detroit in 1853. He was owner and editor of the Detroit Free Press after his service in the Mexican War. He was a commissioned an officer in Company S, Michigan 1st Cavalry Regiment on 22 Aug 1861; promoted to Brevet Brig-General on 20 Aug 1862 but died before it was made official. Mustered out on 02 Sep 1862 at Alexandria, VA.

Notable Facts:
MIBiog states he was born in 1822 & died Sept. 5, 1862. Was Sec. of the Senate in 1845. Brodhead was mortally wounded August 30, 1862 at the second battle of Bull Run. He was a cousin to President Franklin Pierce.
