With his energy did much to build up the village, established the county seat, erected a first class hotel, built a church, procured capital to dam the river and built mills and manufactured lumber on a large scale. He was a member of Companies F and S, 2nd Michigan Cavalry, battalion QM
Notable Facts:
Settled in Newaygo in 1841 and founded the village of Newaygo in 1852. He planned and constructed a canal across the Muskegon flats after obtaining an appropriation of internal improvement lands for that purpose.
