Biographical Sketch:
He moved with his parents to Ann Arbor, MI in 1838; in 1840, to Woodhull and to Lansing in 1847. At 18, he puchased a foundry in North Lansing and manufactured farm implements for 14 years. He enlisted in the 6th Michigan Cavalry, 10/11/1862, serving as an orderly sergeant for about 1 year when he was discharged for health reasons. After the war, he was involved in a drug business and then a boot and shoe business. He was elected mayor of Lansing in 1872, 1873 and 1876.
