Came to Michigan in 1857, resided in Washtenaw county until 1868, then went to Houghton county. Went into the army in 1862, served until 1866. Admitted to the bar in 1869 at Houghton where he served two terms as Prosecuting Attorney for the county and as Collector of Customs for the Dustrict of Superior for three years.
