Biographical Sketch:
Of English & Scottish descent. Emigrated to US with his family, 1850**; settled in Huron Co., MI 1852. Worked in the lumber camps 1852-1856. Arrived in Antrim Co., 1856. Worked in other aspects of the lumber business for a time then clerked & did bookkeeping in a store. Went to Charlevoix Co., 1869-82 & went into the mercantile business. Vice pres. of the Charlevoix County Bank. he had business interests in Petoskey. Held local offices in several communities. Member of the Masons & Knights Templar **1881 Manual shows he removed to Cincinnati in April, 1849 and to Michigan in 1852.
