Biographical Sketch:
He was the son of Willard Lovell and Zerviah Taft. Born in Vermont, his family went to Schenectady, NY by wagon inland then by way of the Erie Canal and Lake Erie on to Detroit, then to Kalamazoo by wagon in 1835. During his time as a state senator he was chairman of the committee of House of Correction at Ionia and also a member of the ways and means committee.

Notable Facts:
Was elected Supervisor of his township eleven times and twice, Kalamazoo County Treasurer.
