For 25 years he worked at the newspaper, and was publisher for 12 of those years, of the Lake Shore Commercial [later the Saugatuck Commercial Record] in Saugatuck. He held most of the village and township offices, and served as postmaster for 25 years. Member of the Masons. He was vice president and director of the Fruit Growers State Bank
