Son of John Webster and Maria (Helnier or Helmer) Farmer. He lived in Ingham County until 1889 when he moved to Unadilla, Livingston Co. He held the office of township treasurer of Stockbridge Township, Ingham County, 2 years, and was supervisor of Unadilla Township, Livingston County, 4 years and chairman of the board of supervisors, 1 year. He represented Livingston County before the state board of equalization in 1906. In 1930, he was president of an Citizens' Mutual Automobile Insurance Company
