Biographical Sketch:
His father was Robert Adam, descendant of Edinburgh Adams; his mother, Mary Crichton, was from Dumfriesshire, Closeburn Parish; they married in 1804. Emigrated to US on July 4, 1826; settled in Tecumseh, MI in 1831.Delegate to the 1835 Constitutional Convention for Lenawee Co. Also served as secretary of the senate, state treasurer & auditor general. Was on the first board of regents for U. of Mich. & was treasurer for U. of Mich. 1844-46 & 1848-51. In 1853, John was appointed construction agent of the Michigan Southern and Northern Indiana Railroad Co. In 1858, he became the company's auditor until 1868. Hinsdale gives death date as July 8, 1888
