Son of Stephen and Polly (Smiley) Adsit of NY. Admitted to the NY bar in 1859. Enlisted in the 44th NY Volunteers, company G, infantry; participated in the principal battles of the Army of the Potomac. Mustered out as a Lt. Member of the G.A.R. Settled in Spring Lake, MI in 1866; moved to Grand Rapids in 1877.He served as judge for the 17th Circuit Court from 1891-1899.
