Biographical Sketch:
Son of William & Betsey (Hadley) Brockway. Worked with his father, a blacksmith, until coming to Mich. at 18, 1831. Lived in Dexter & Ypsilanti. Taught school; 1833, preacher for the Methodist Episcopal Church at Dexter. Ministered in several places including the Huron Mission, the Mt Clemens circuit & the Saginaw Mission. Military chaplain 8 yrs in Sault Ste. Marie. Agent to the Wesleyan Seminary in Albion, 7 yrs. Left the ministry due to health. Engaged in real estate and business ventures. Helped establish Albion College and served a long time as both a trustee and as the treasurer.

Chaplain to Stockton's Independent Regiment, aka the 16th Michigan Infantry, 1861-62. Member of the Odd Fellows; the Sons of Temperance; & Co. & state Pioneer Societies
