Biographical Sketch:
Of English ancestry. Son of Ebenezer O. and Mary A. (Livermore) Grosvenor. He served as clerk first on a Lake Ontario steamer and then in the US land office in Monroe, MI. He landed at la Plaisance Bay in 1835. He practiced law with David A. Noble for 8 years; he partnered with Talcott E. Wing for 8 years then worked with John R. Rauch for 15 years. He subsequently had several other partners in sucsession. He served as a colonel and brigadere general in the state militia prior to the Civil War. He was one of the founders and a president of the Monroe Gas Light Co. in 1859. He was made a colonel of the 7th Mich. Infantry, June 10, 1861, and
served in the field until July 7, 1862, when he resigned due to severe scurvy that threatened his life. He was appointed a trustee of the Michigan Asylum for the Insane in Kalamazoo in 1881 and 1887. He served as president of the Monroe County Bar Association for many years. Member of the Masons
Notable Facts:
Learner law from Robert McClelland and Alpheus Felch, both of whom became Michigan Governors; as well as Warner Wign, later a Michigan Supreme Court Justice.
