Biographical Sketch:
His father (Howard) was from Whitingham, VT; mother Lucy (Pettingill). He was a Captain of the 11th Michigan Infantry. Began working at 15. He became a cigar maker at 19. He worked in various parts of the state until 1898, when he purchased an interest in a cigar store and factory in Sturgis. Homer played ball 1888-95, the last 5 years for the Iron Copper League in Marquette, MI. Served as alderman & mayor. He was appointed postmaster of Sturgis February, 1923; served in that position until October, 1933.

Died in office in 1944 after a fatal automobile accident. Death certificate gives father's name as Horace.
