Biographical Sketch:
Son of Granville & Frances (Rendt) Boyton; of English & German descent. (Father ancestry descending from Sir Matthew Boynton of England and his mother's from Capt. Louis Rendt of the German Army.) Moved around for a time after age 19. Settled in Cincinnati, OH when he married. Enlisted as a pvt. in Co. C of the 8th Michigan Cavalry in 1862; mustered out as a Major at war's end. Served as City Clerk and President in Marine City. Supervisor from 1866-70 and was also Mayor of Port Huron.

Notable Facts:
Son of ?? and Frances (Rendt) Boynton. Invented & manufactured the Boynton fire-escape & hook-and-ladder truck in 1874-77. Mayor of Port Huron 1874-75. Founded Knights of the Maccabees and commonly referred to as the "Father of the Maccabees."
