Biographical Sketch:
Of Scottish/English descent. She championed women's and children's rights and was active in Grand Rapids' civic life. She advocated for the establishment of farmer's markets, known as the "mother" of retail farmers markets in Grand Rapids in addition to her leadership with the Grand Rapids Federation of Women's clubs, Ladies Literary Club and the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense.

Notable Facts:
First women elected to MI's state senate [and legislature] in 1921. Niece of Sen. Thomas McCall. As of 2012, she was the only woman to represent Grand Rapids in the Michigan State Senate. Died of heart failure. Some census and other records give birth year as 1873.
