Biographical Sketch:
Son of Robert F. and Lois (Winslow) Callender, both of whom were from New England. He taught school 3 years before studying law and began practice at Toledo in 1898, moving to Detroit, MI, in 1899, having offices at 1706-10 Dime Bank Building. He was a member of the charter commission which drafted the charter of the city of Detroit in 1917. He served as Michigan Recorder's court judge in Michigan, 1929-35; appointed 1929; circuit judge in Michigan 3rd Circuit, 1936-39. Member of Beta Theta Pi College Fraternity, Detroit bar Association, Detroit Lawyers' Club, Michigan Bar Association, American Bar Association, Detroit Board of Commerce, Detroit Athletic Club, Detroit Boat Club, Detroit Golf Club, Detroit Yacht Club, Ingleside Club, Faculty Club of Ohio State University and president of the Detroit Exchange Club.
Notable Facts:
Helped rewrite the Michigan criminal code.
