Son of Rufus M. and Ellen E. (Vandermark) Crutchfield. He was interested in farming and coal mining and had charge of the state organization of coal miners 2 years. He also represented the United Mine Workers of Michigan on the International Executive Board 1 year and was connected with the water board of Saginaw.
