He received his education in the district schools at Grand Ledge, Michigan.

Biographical Sketch:
For several years he was engaged in the merchandising business and from 1911 to 1917 was a partner in the Miles Stark Clothing Company, of Grand Ledge. He was elected supervisor of Grand Ledge in 1913 and served as such for five years; was elected chairman of the board of supervisors in April, 1917, and in December, 1917, was appointed chief clerk of the Eaton county draft board and served as such during the world war. Was elected county clerk of Eaton county in November, 1918, and served the county in that capacity for three consecutive terms. Member of the Grand Ledge Lodge No. 179 F. & A.M., No. 180 I.O.O.F., Charlotte Commandery No. 37, and the K. of P. No. 53.

Republican and was elected to the legislature November 4, 1924, by a vote of 5,862 to 5,368 for John B. Strange.
