Biographical Sketch:
Son of Uriah and Abigail Goodwin. Native of Lenox, MA; lived for a time in Oneida County, NY. Read and practiced law. He moved to Ann Arbor in 1831; in 1833 he purchased land in Branch Co and was the first settler in Union City, becoming its first postmaster, then knwn as Goodwinsville. Served as supervisor of Burlington for 8 years, justice of the peace, 8 years; member of the
Board of Regents of the University of Michigan, 1848-52. Abour 1852/54 he was agent of the State Prison at Jackson. After leaving this post, he moved to Coldwater briefly to practice law before moving to Texas.
