He moved to Oakland County. He was a small-business owner for 26 years, owning 2 companies that provide insurance and laundry services. He was a grass-roots political activist for over 20 years, and served as an Oakland County Commissioner (2002) and Oakland County Parks and Recreation commissioner. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, Troy Community Coalition, Boys & Girls Club, and Deaf Community Advocacy Network. He ran for Mayor of Troy in May 2013 but he lost to Dane Slater.
