Biographical Sketch:
Emigrated to Michigan at age 19 in June 1865; lived in Buchanan 2 yrs. He naturalized in July 1874. Moved to Manistee, working first as a lumber mill laborer then as a lumber inspector until 1877 when he built a shingle mill. 1879 helped establish the largest Michigan lumber mill of its time in Manistee. Helped organize the 1st National Bank of Manistee. He was director of several enterprises. Appointed Secretary of State, 12/24/1891, by Gov. Winans to fill the vacancy made by the resignation of Daiel E. Soper. Elected alderman for is ward, 1880. He was living in Pasadena, CA in 1920 and 1930.

Notable Facts:
president pro tempore of the Council. Probably died 9/16/1931 in Los Angeles, CA per CalifDeath Index 1905-39
