Biographical Sketch:
Descended from Dutch settlers of New Jersey. Son of Amos M., jr. & Sarah E. (Trowbridge) Brant. The family moved to New Milford, PA in 1851. In 1861 he began an apprenticeship in the printers' trade at the Binghamton 'Republican'. After 1865 worked at a series of newspapers in TN, KY, IN & OH. Moved to Detroit in 1868; worked at the Free Press for a time; active in his trade union. Acted as state Fish Commissioner. He served as clerk of the House of Ropresentatives in 1889. Member of the Elks and the Tyographical Union.
