Biographical Sketch:
Son of Allen Dougald & Lucinda (Wilbur) Black. Of Scottish & English descent. Studied law with 2 prominent jurists. Came to Tuscola Co., MI, 1866. Appointed U.S. Internal Revenue Assessor for the county for 1 year. Admitted to the bar, 2/1867 and practiced in Caro. Prosecuting attorney for Marquette Co. U.S. Dist. Attorney for the Eastern Dist. of Michigan, 1885-90. Candidate for circuit judge, Michigan 30th Circuit, 1899; candidate for justice of Michigan state supreme court, 1909. Lived in Bay City, Marquette (1873-77), the state of Colorado & Caro, MI between 1867 & 1878.

Notable Facts:
Dropped dead (apoplexy) while arguing a case in the Supreme Court.
