3rd son of Alanson & Marilla (Wells) Koon. Family moved to Allen twp, Hillsdale Co., MI, 1844. He taught in NY & IL for several yrs, while studying law, returning to Hillsdale, 1858. Admitted to the bar, 1858. Practiced law with his brother Martin B. from 1866-1878. Held positions as Circuit Court Commissioner, Prosecuting Attorney, mayor of Hillsdale (2 terms) & Bd of Trustees for Hillsdale College. He was vice president of the Second National Bank of HIllsdale; member of the Hillsdale school board.
