Biographical Sketch:
Of English ancestry. Son of John & Mary (Rendle) Santo of England. Moved to Detroit, MI, 1883. Held jobs in Detroit & Grand Rapids that taught him to be an insurance underwriter. Appointed to the Michigan inspection bureau for 7 yrs beginning in 1887. Moved to Traverse City after purchasing the H.F. Harsha Fire Insurance Co., 1894. Helped develop the resort aspect of the Grand Traverse region. Elected mayor of Traverse City, 1903. Member of the Masons, Knights of Pythias, the Elks & Maccabees.
