He moved to Bloomingdale, MI in 1897. He worked at the carpenter trade 15 years and then entered the life insurance business. His House seat was his first elective office.

Notable Facts:
Was born aboard a ship while his parents were enroute to this country from Germany. May have died of stroke/apoplexy 10/14/1927. Find-a-Grave lists a Charles A. dying on that date but the birth date differs [6/21/1849]; death records show a Charles O. dying on that date using the same birth date as Find-a-Grave/ However, Find-a-Grave has a photo of the headstone showing the birth year as 1851. 1919 Manual says 6/9/1852
