Born on a farm in Sweden. Son of John who had emigrated before his son. Came to America at age 12 in 1869 & worked in IL. Came to Michigan, 1880. Began a mercantile and lumbering business in Omena, 1883. Built the Leelanau Hotel in Omena & helped develop the area as a resort. Also had a prosperous cherry orchard.Served as postmaster of Omena for many yrs. Member of the Masons & the Odd Fellows.
