Biographical Sketch:
Of German and French descent. Son of Charles G. and Anna (Kaiser or Schuppen) Weissert. He worked for the Hastings Banner and in 1900 went abroad as a newspaper correspondent, traveling 3,000 miles on a bicycle through European countries. After his first year as a collegian he gained his first experience in daily newspaper work on the staff of the Detroit Today , now the Detroit Times. He worked on the editorial board of the Harvard Illustrated Magazine while in college. Became a member of the New York Herald's editorial staff, but, due to poor health, later resigned and returned to Hastings in 1906. He also worked briefly for the Grand Rapids Herald. He traveled in the Southwest, Mexico and Canadian Northwest during his time in New York. He also worked for the Kalamazoo Gazette. He has written several works on dramatic and historical subjects and several monographs on Michigan history. He was vice - president of the Barry County pioneer society; a member of the Michigan historical society; the Harvard club of Michigan; and the Masons.
