Biographical Sketch:
Son of William and Octavia (Parsons) Sterling. After leaving the university, he engaged in commercial pursuits at Rochester and New York City, and some years later returned to Gouverneur and opened an insurance, real estate and loan office. In 1891, he moved to Iron Mountain to accept the position as manager of the insurance department of the First National Bank. At the time of the formation of the U. S. Steel Corporation, he was engaged as an insurance expert to make rates for their insurance department. When he was in office, we was conducting his insurance and real estate business established about 16 years prior, and was secretary and treasurer of the Iron Mountain electric light and power company.
