Biographical Sketch:
Of Irish-German descent. Son Rila and Margaret (Motter) Smith. He moved with his parents to a farm near Minden, MI, Sanilac County, in 1875. He moved to Port Huron around 1915. Served as director in 2 banks, supervisor and drain commissioner (13 years) in Sanilac County and manager of the John W. Smith Company Inc. of Port Huron which did dredging and excavating. During WWI he was chairman of the draft board in Port Huron .
