Son of Fred and Matilda (Schmocke) Petrowsky. Emigrated around 1881 or 1886. Deputy Sheriff for 2 years; at 14 he became a machine hand at Dwight Lumber Co.; briefly worked at the Brass Rolling Mills of Detroit. He was a grocery store clerk for some time before entering the saloon and restaurant business.
