Biographical Sketch:
Son of Preserved Hinds. 1861, enlisted in the 57th Pennsylvania Vol. Infantry; 1st Sgt. of Co. A. Wounded at Fredericksburg soon after being commissioned 1st Lt. Wounded again, 1863, at Chancellorsville; wounded & taken prisoner at Gettysburg. Escaped from Libby Prison; recaptured; imprisoned several places until released 3/1/1865. Commissioned captain 1864; mustered out 7/1865. 1866, emigrated to Stanton, MI. Has held several local and state government positions. He was a Knights Templar, a member of the Ionia COmmandery, No. 11, and a Free Mason.
