Son of Thomas F. Rushton, born in Leeds, England, & Mary Knowlan, born in Mancheter, MI. Of Irish & English descent. Attended high school in Napoleon, MI & U. of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Studied law with an Ann Arbor attorney. Went west for his health, 1905; continued his legal studies. Admitted to the Washington state bar, 1907. Returned to Michigan, 1908; practiced in Menominee & then in Escanaba. Served as Escanaba city attorney for 21 years, off & on. Prosecuting attorney, 1913 & 1914

Notable Facts:
A member of the Masons & Knights Templar. Drafted the bill creating the Upper Peninsula State Fair, 1927. Helped draft the liquor laws
