Biographical Sketch:
Son of Thomas F. Rushton, born in Leeds, England, & Mary Knowlan [or Nowlen], born in Mancheter, MI. Of Irish & English descent. Studied law with an Ann Arbor attorney. Went west for his health, 1905; continued his legal studies. Admitted to the Washington state bar, 1907. Returned to Michigan, 1908; practiced in Menominee and then in Escanaba. He served as Escanaba city attorney for 21 years, off & on. Prosecuting attorney for Delta County, 2 years. He was vice president of the Escanaba National Bank; he practiced corporate law for the last 10 years of his career. In May 1940, he was appointed director of the state board of tax administration until January of 1941 A member of the Masons & Knights Templar.
Notable Facts:
Drafted the bill creating the Upper Peninsula State Fair, 1927. Helped draft the liquor laws.
