Biographical Sketch:
Son of Samuel & Susan McGowan. Of Scotch-Irish & German descent. Moved to Michigan when young. High school principal, Coldwater. Enlisted in the Mich. 5th Cav. as a pvt, 1862; became captain 9th Mich. Cav.; wounded, 1863, resign as a result, 1864. Elected prosecuting attorney of Branch Co., 1868-72; served on the Coldwater school bd; was a University of Michichigan regent 7 years, & a justice of the peace. Resumed the practice of law in D.C., 1881. Member, Grand Army of the Republic.
